Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

—4.5—

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt is a nonfiction novel about a murder among high society in proper and traditional Savannah.  It is wonderfuly well-written and each character is more bizarre than the last.  Savannah itself even becomes character-like; a detailed discription of the city, its people, its ideals, and its views are present and are just as important to the story as those involved in the crime.  Anyone who enjoys the nonfiction-novel genre, and even those who don’t, will find this book well worth a look.
