The Knife Man

—4—

The Knife Man by Wendy Moore is an fascinating biography of one of the founders of modern surgery.  It examines the life and times of John Hunter, a controversial surgeon in the 18th century.  Performing life-saving procedures and vivisections, collecting anatomical samples, and contemplating evolution before its time, Hunter was a revolutionary, and Wendy Moore does an excellent job presenting him.
